Working Girl

Let's just call this an office look before you switch into your flats. I know most women would not wear these shoes to work, and I am not assuming you would or saying you should. I've worn this exact outfit with flats before, and it's just as effective. I'm considering doing a series of office looks. I find that's what people struggle with the most. It can be hard to convey personality with a dress code, and a lot of "business casual" clothes lack style. I promise I will not include these shoes in the series. For me, this look is all about the top. I was ready to wear a different pencil skirt this morning when the zipper split, proving it's always good to have a backup. This top is by Diane Von Furstenberg, and it was another incredible steal from Nordstrom Rack. The reason I was attracted to it is that I love a good plain white t-shirt. I think I have said this many times before. It's easy to find yourself grabbing the same garment again and again from your wardrobe. For me, it's a white cotton tee. I think my favourite is Wilfred, it's nothing special, but I love the shape and the material. I can pair it with anything, and I always feel good in it. I know it's going to be a good day when it's fresh out of the wash, I wear it so often that it practically lives in my laundry hamper. It's wise to pay attention to those kinds of habits. If you fight it, you'll end up buying a bunch of clothes you never wear. Switching up the fabrics, sleeve lengths, or necklines can be a smart way to keep it interesting while still wearing your tried and true. The best part about this shirt is that it has this extra detail on the front. I like that it's not a print or an image. It's still very much a plain white tee, just with some extra dimension. It's easy to coordinate and very wearable. Though I have many white tee's, it's like nothing else I have in my wardrobe. This shirt is a triacetate/polyester blend, which is a more office-friendly material than cotton. A lot of suiting is made from triacetate; it tends to be stiffer and crisp. I love how tailored it looks, and I feel sophisticated in it, but not overdressed. I think it makes for the perfect summer work look.
